Description: Her bright eyes shyly looks at the viewer, half frightened by the attention. A dark blue shawl around her weathered face shows a wisp of her graying hair. A lighter blue shawl over her shoulders allows a glimpse at the front of her Sunday best pink dress. All this is against a deep orange background.
Every day except Sunday, Estella and her mother sell fruit and vegetables.They work from a primitive roadside stand that was a few yards from the main door to our hotel. In her early sixties, her hard life had left its mark on her face.
We were visiting Patzcuaro, Mexico. Every day we passed them as we went outside to paint. A deal was struck for them to model for the artists of our painting workshop. I was able to take photographs from which this Studio painting was developed.
